In this talk, ecological designer and landscape contractor Jessica Viola explores how we can design landscapes, homes, and communities that respond intelligently to fire, flood, drought, and change. Grounded in permaculture and decades of hands-on work in Southern California, the talk weaves practical strategies like firescaping, soil remediation, water harvesting, and plant selection with a deeper exploration of patterns in nature and the role of community as living infrastructure. Participants are invited to see disturbance not as failure, but as a teacher, and resilience not only as an ecological strategy, but as a relational practice. The evening offers both actionable tools and a reimagined vision of stewardship, belonging, and regeneration.
